Applications are hereby invited from suitably-qualified candidates who are Kenyan Nationals to fill the above position on a Fixed Term Appointment in the WASH Section of UNICEF Kenya Country Office.

Purpose of Post:

Under the supervision of the Resident Programme Officer, Garissa Field office, the post is responsible for supporting planning, implementing and monitoring of the WASH programme work plans in the Field Office

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support preparation of the WASH programme annual work plans, identification and management of partnerships for implementation of WASH programme activities in rural water supply, sanitation, schools and health facilities. Support monitoring and assessment of WASH situation in the region with particular reference to children and women and provide inputs to situation analysis of children.
  • Support joint programme monitoring, supervision and regular reporting of WASH interventions under implementation by partners and Government counterparts in north eastern and upper eastern regions of Kenya.
  • Ensure timely and quality adherence to standards and guidelines for all WASH interventions undertaken in the region.
  • Support inter agency and inter sectoral coordination (health, nutrition and education, in particular) of partners operating in the region contributing to the successful achievement of planed results. Support integration of WASH component with health and nutrition interventions in selected result areas to enhance programmatic synergy towards common CSD outcomes. Participate in the development of emergency preparedness and response plans for flood and cholera response interventions in collaboration with stakeholders with particular focus on DRR and strengthening community resilience.
  • Assist in the assessment and analysis of capacity gaps among regional partners and institutions and development of comprehensive capacity development plan, support implementation of the plan to enhance capacity in specific areas in accordance with the plan
  • Assist partners to develop proposals, plans, budgets and carry out necessary review of partnerships to provide corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the preparation of progress and annual reports, donor reports, DCT monitoring and liquidation for programme in the field office region.
Required Qualifications: 
  • University degree in water or civil engineering, public health, environmental studies or a related technical field.

Experience:     

Two years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national levels in WASH programme management. Practical experience in working in rural community-based approaches, co-ordination and networking with Government and/or partners.

Language(s):    

Fluency in English and another UN working language required.  Knowledge of Kiswahili would be an asset.
