Export Manager

We are  a blue chip company that specialises in manufacture and distribution of aluminium and copper cable products in East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. With the growth of the business they require an export manager to take the firm to the next level.   

While ideally, an individual would have a background in engineering, this is not absolute requirement. Stress in this position is on those who have the mindset and passion for marketing and ability to drive sales - - and 5 to 7 years work experience.

The export manager’s primary responsibility is to manage and grow the export business and to ensure availability of the company’s products in those markets. 

Primary responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement export related marketing, sales and distribution strategies and plans to ensure achievement of targets.
  • With the commercial manager, actively explore and establish new markets for the company’s products through visits, exhibitions and other means.
  • Carry out market research and intelligence and provide market information that will assist in designing marketing strategies and development of new products for existing and potential markets.
  • Establish, build and maintain relationships and contacts with transporters, shipping agents, clearing and forwarding agents and regulatory authorities to ensure smooth export sales operations.
  • Prepare export reports and statistics for management decision making.
  • Handle all documents related to export sales and ensure they are duly signed, authorized and are in order to avoid litigation and/or penalties arising from defective documents or procedures.
  • Liaise with export promotion authorities and participate in regional shows and exhibitions to market the company and its products.
  • Co-ordinate the development of trading terms and conditions with distributors and other business partners and ensure they are fair to export customers.
Qualifications
  • Ideally bachelor’s degree in electrical/ mechanical engineering
  • Postgraduate diploma in marketing or business management & administration
  • Strong problem solving skills based on an ability to analyze a situation based on hard facts and figures, blended with a touch of creative thinking
  • At least five years sales/marketing experience in export sales.
  • Experience in a shipping or clearing and forwarding environment.
  • Good people management skills
  • Computer literacy including office applications, such as MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
This position is based in Kenya with frequent travel within East Africa region and would suit those whose salary expectations range from KSh 150,000 to 200,000 per month.
