Distribution Manager

A “blue chip” company that specialises in manufacture and distribution of aluminium and copper cable products in East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. With the growth of the business they require a distribution manager to take the firm to the next level.   

While ideally, an individual would have a background in engineering, this is not absolute requirement. Stress in this position is on those who have the mindset and passion for marketing and ability to drive sales and 7 to 10 years work experience.

The Distribution Manager formulates and implements marketing, sales and customer relations within the distribution outlets in order to increase the organization’s market share. She/he will develop and negotiate strategic partnership with distributors to enhance the company’s competitive position.

Primary responsibilities
  • Keep distributors aligned to the agreed plans and ensure availability at all outlets within the designated sales territory.
  • Monitor sales of distributors, stockists and key accounts on a regular basis and report accordingly.
  • Ensure monthly achievement of sales targets via the distributor.
  • Initiate contracts with distributors and manage the day to day distribution relationships to ensure effective distribution of the company’s products.
  • Re-align distributor policies with company policies
  • Distributors’ recruitment in new markets and town.
  • Establish and maintain good corporate relations and implement a PR and customer care management programme.
  • Steer market research and intelligence, and conceptualize new products for the market
  • Ensure high level company visibility in the market.
Qualifications
  • Master in business administration is an added advantage
  • Bachelors degree in a sales and or marketing related field
  • Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualifications or its equivalent
  • Ten years relevant working experience in sales & marketing management three years of which should be at senior level preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience or qualification in electrical engineering an added advantage
  • Good marketing, selling and public relations skills
  • Strong management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to develop, formulate strategy and exercise good judgment
  • Computer literacy including office applications, such as MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Member of professional body or society
This position is based in Nairobi with frequent travel within East Africa region and would suit those whose salary expectations range from KSh 150,000 to 200,000 per month.
