Lutheran World Federation Kenya - Djibouti Program is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the following position, to be based in our Nairobi Office.
 
Regional Emergency Team Leader
 
The LWF Regional Emergency Team Leader is a key operational position in providing support and expertise to LWF operations in emergencies and humanitarian operations.

The position requires extensive travel, and supervision of specialized technical staff. 

S/he shall be based in Nairobi and reports to the LWF Humanitarian Coordinator in LWF HQ in Geneva. 

When based in a LWF country programme s/he shall report to the respective LWF Representative in that country. 

In all his tasks the Team Leader will promote and uphold the vision, mission, core values and implement the objectives of the LWF, by using the emergency strategies and other approved emergency documents for the region. 

S/he will continuously strive to improve the quality of emergency response in line with LWFs empowerment, rights-based and integrated approach. 

The Team Leader will actively promote all aspects of the LWF Accountability Framework, including the incorporation of HAP benchmarks and other accountability elements in all aspects of emergency response and preparedness, and adherence to the LWF Code of Conduct regarding Abuse of Power and Sexual Exploitation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up new humanitarian response operations, provide support to the expansion or scaling up of existing humanitarian operations and support disaster preparedness and capacity building of LWF staff in the region.
Competences & Personal attributes:
  • Knowledge of institutional mandates, policies, principles, standards and guidelines pertaining to international humanitarian assistance. 
  • Analytical capacity and in particular the ability to analyze and articulate rapid response and surge dimension of emergencies and emergency response. 
  • Proven ability to work in an organized and responsive manner under extreme pressure and occasionally in highly stressful environments following the deterioration of an existing crisis or the emergence of a new crisis. 
  • Proven ability to plan his/her own work and to manage conflicting priorities.
Professional Qualifications
  • Relevant University Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation and development, or other related area. 
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required and knowledge of French is an advantage.
