Summary: Our client is an innovative young company that seeks to change the waste management and recycling space in Nairobi and beyond. 

The company is currently scaling up its operations and is looking to recruit an operational manager for its recycling facility. 

Managing the whole recycling plant, you will be in charge of processing the following waste streams into new products:  organic waste to organic fertilizer, glass production and textile recycling. As part of the management team, you will take up significant responsibility in a fast-growing company. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage operations of the company’s recycling plant where the following waste streams are recycled:
  1. Organic waste to organic fertilizer
  2. Glass bottles to glasses
  3. Textile waste
  • Design and implement appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms
  • Ensure high level of processing efficiency in terms of turnover time, quality of output and cleanliness of operations.
  • Manage waste flows & logistics (material flows, fleet management, stock management)
  • Management and hiring of staff
  • Manage and maintain vehicles and machinery team
  • Usage of MS Excel or other ICT tools to manage recycling activities as well as to regularly report to CEO on all aspects of operations
  • Drive cost-minimization across all aspects of operations through appropriate structures and efficient planning
  • Guarantee an image of ‘clean and green’ through excellent operations
Qualification and background
  • University degree
  • 5 years+ senior management experience
  • Technical background in organic fertilizer production, glass and textile recycling is not required. However, significant experience in managing a manufacturing/processing plant is required.
  • Experience in managing a large team, most of whom are semi-skilled
  • Significant experience in controlling and planning
  • Proven team-building and leadership skills (i.e. situational leadership)
  • Having worked in a mid-size to large organization with high professional and ethical standards
