Organization Description: One Acre Fund supplies smallholder farmers with the tools and financing they need to grow their way out of hunger and poverty. Instead of giving handouts, we invest in smallholder farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. 

Through a model of asset-based financing that addresses the full value chain, we provide a complete service bundle of seeds and fertilizer, financing for farm inputs, agricultural training, and market education - and we deliver these services within walking distance of the 180,000 rural farmers we serve in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.

We are growing quickly. In six years, we have grown to serve over 100,000 farm families with more than 500 full-time field staff in Kenya and we are on track to serve one million farmers across 6 countries by 2020.

Job Description: We are seeking an experienced individual to assist our communications team with office-based administrative support. 

This role will report to the One Acre Fund communications field manager and work closely with communications officers in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania to maintain and continuously improve efficient systems for organizing, maintaining and sharing company media. 

This position requires strong typing and computer skills, as well as strong inter-personal skills. Previous experience with Microsoft Word and Powerpoint are a must.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, a clear and confident communicator, and capable of conducting telephone interviews with farmers and staff from multiple countries. 

A successful candidate will also be capable of self-motivating and structured work planning.

  • Support Kenya Communications Team
  • Farmer Phone Interviews and Q&A’s
  • Content backup
  • English and Kiswahili Translationing
  • Communications Team Research Support

Qualifications

We are seeking motivated employees with an eagerness to learn new skills. Previous experience in administrative work is welcome but not required. 

S/he will demonstrate a long-term passion for agriculture in Western and will be familiar with the challenges faced by smallholder farmers.

  • Diploma or certificate from a recognized academic institution
  • KCSE (minimum C)
  • Computer skills in email, Internet, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and oral communicator
  • Team player with ability to learn quickly and grow professionally
  • Proven ability to manage local level relationships
  • Fluent in Kiswahili and English
  • Passionate about serving smallholder farmers
