We are seeking a suitable person to fill in the position of a Project Officer - Training & Media – Behavioural Intervention within our ABC Project.

The details of the vacancy are as follows:

Job Title: Project Officer - Training & Media – Behavioural Intervention

Reporting to: Project Manager

Location: Nairobi

Job Purpose

To contribute towards a sustained change in sexual behavior of students at University of Nairobi (UoN) and United States International University -Africa (USIU-A), and out of school youth by increasing their understanding and practice of Abstinence, Being Faithful, Correct and Consistent Condom use (ABC) as well as Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) through peer education training and supportive supervision of behavior change communication, peer advocacy and outreach thematic events.

The position has an inclination towards Training and Outreach and Behavioural Intervention and as such the successful candidate must have some experience and also demonstrate a passion for this aspect.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and evaluate projects with an aspect of resource mobilization.
  • Coordinate of all project activities including preparation of work plans
  • Plan and conduct regular outreach and other thematic activities to reach the target population.
  • Design training schedules for different activities targeting implementing partners and identified organizations working with the target population.
  • Provide leadership in the development, management, delivery and review of media strategies for projects and organizational activities.
  • Liaise with the media bodies for accurate and consistent coverage of ICL activities within the project.
  • Assist the Projects officers and Manager in the development of new project proposals.
  • Compile accurate narrative and data reports (including best practices) and submit them to the Program Manager and the M & E officer according to the set deadlines.
  • Create partnerships within the project sites for the attainment of project goals.
  • Plan and implement Community mobilization activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • A minimum of a degree in Bachelors of Arts / Education or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years training experience in a youth setting on aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention or behavior change in a project setting Experience in working with tertiary institutions an added advantage.
  • Experience with data collection for M&E and strategic information as well as writing donor funded proposals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a keen eye for details, good presentation and interpersonal skills and excellent report writing skills.
  • People management skills as well as mentorship capability.
  • History of working effectively and respectfully with government, NGOs, contractors and other partners.
  • Ability to effectively convey programmatic goals, en list partnerships, and work with a range of program and external stakeholders.

Job Purpose

The Project Officer will assist in the effective and efficient management of the project by supporting the design, planning and management of the project.

The Project Officer will also assist in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data of program activities within the project and setting up systems that facilitate accurate, consistent and timely reports.

They will further facilitate outreach and training activities for Most at Risk Populations while providing strategic leadership in micro-enterprise development for the target population for alternative income generation & poverty eradication

This position has an inclination towards Structural Intervention and as such the successful candidate must have some experience and also demonstrate a passion for Entrepreneurship and Resource Mobilization aspects.

Key Roles & Responsibilities Include (But are not limited tTo):
  • Assist the Project Manager in the development of new project proposals.
  • Assist the coordination all project activities including preparation of work plans
  • Plan and conduct regular outreach and other thematic activities to reach the target population and Supervise peer education and outreach activities.
  • Plan and facilitate implementation of HIV Counseling and Testing activities.
  • Create partnerships within the project sites for the attainment of project goals.
  • Plan and implement Community mobilization activities.
  • Ensure evaluations of trainings and outreach activities are conducted and reports written and submitted to the project manager/monitoring and evaluation officer.
  • Participate in project, organizational and institutional meetings and work harmoniously with other stakeholders.
Academic qualifications, experience, skills and personality desired:-
  • A Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences.
  • A minimum of two years training experience in a youth setting on aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention or behavior change in a project setting .Experience in working with tertiary institutions will be an added advantage.
  • Be an excellent facilitator and have the ability to create partnerships within the project area.
  • Experience in implementing USG funded projects is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a team, foster a team approach and incorporate capacity building activities into the programme.
  • People management skills as well as mentorship experience and capability.
  • Ability to analyze and utilize programme development gaps for designing Programs.
