Summary:
The position holder will develop computer programmes for a variety of projects in the cluster as assigned by the Cluster Data Manager and respective Principle Investigators for various studies.

Reporting Lines: Cluster Data Manager and Study PI, with a dotted link to ICT

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse, design, code, test and debug programs using prescribed specifications utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
  • Maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by amending flow charts, develop detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
  • Test and develop programming modifications.
  • Analyze performance of existing programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with principal investigators and approval of Cluster Data Manager.
  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections. Document programming problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Assists in physical and logical database design.
  • Code reviews other developers' software within the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time

  • Ability to programme handheld devices
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues involving complex data integration
  • Attention to fine details and excellent analytical skills
  • Good organisational and communication (verbal & written) skills
  • Ability to work independently and to achieve results through teams
Qualifications and Experience:
  • A BSc degree in Computer Science or related discipline and at least 3 years in programming experience.
  • Thorough understanding of C/C++, Java, Visual Basic, XML and Demonstrated work experience with at least one relational database management system; PHP/MySQL and Filemaker Pro would be most advantageous.
Relationships:
In addition to working with the Cluster team, the position holder will be expected to interact and work closely with Programmers in the ICT section, other data managers in the cluster and other internal and external stakeholders.
