Railway Training Institute (RTI) was established in 1956 as an implant school for Railways and Harbors in the East African Region.

The school is currently registered as a Technical Training Institute under Education Act Cap 211 to offer diploma and certificate courses in Engineering and Business studies in addition to Rail and Marine Courses.

The Institute is looking for suitable and qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions:

1. H.O.D Electrical Engineering

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Organizing, coordinating and facilitating academic training sessions.
  • Overseeing the delivery of courses by teaching staff.
  • Review, appraisal and updating of the curriculum taught at the Institute.
  • Recommending on the reading materials to be acquired and stocked at the library.
  • Overseeing research and consultancy services in the faculty.
  • Overseeing the development of relevant teaching materials.
  • Overseeing the provision of appropriate teaching aids for teaching staff.
Minimum requirements
  • Degree in Electrical engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Post graduate diploma in education
  • Have satisfactorily serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Institute or in a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like institutions for a minimum period of three (4) years.
  • Master degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage
  • Have demonstrated high leadership skills.

2. H.O.D - Civil and Environmental Studies

3. H.O.D Mechanical Engineering

4. H.O.D - Rail, Marine and Road

5. Head of ICT and Library Studies

  • Have satisfactorily served as a Senior Lecturer in the Institute or in a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like institutions for a minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Have demonstrated high leadership skills.
  • Possess high level of integrity.
  • Have ability to work within a team while taking responsibility for the team.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
7. Dean of Faculty - Engineering

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Formulating and overseeing the implementation of academic policies and procedures.
  • Providing leadership and technical support in the development of curriculum and course instructional methods.

9. Deputy Director Finance and Administration

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Deputy Director of Administration is responsible for:
  • Overseeing formulation and implementation of administration policies and procedures for the Institute.
  • Interpretation and implementation of the Institute’s administrative policies as formulated by the Board.
  • Overseeing issues relating to the administration activities of the Institute.
  • Overseeing the overall management of marketing and promotion of the Institute’s services.
  • Formulation and implementation of the Institute’s accounts, human resource, ICT and administration policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing financial management and control for the Institute.
  • Overseeing the management of human resources.
  • Overseeing procurement of goods and services for the Institute.
  • Overseeing the development of efficient and effective ICT systems within the Institute.
  • Overseeing the establishment of an effective system of internal controls.
  • Performing other such lawful functions as may from time to time be assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Hold Masters degree in social sciences or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Hold Postgraduate Diploma in Administration/Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years experience in an equivalent position with similar responsibilities in a comparable institution.
  • Demonstrate high degree of professional competence and managerial capability.
  • Are self-motivated and team player.
  • Have excellent computer skills.
  • Possess high analytical and initiative abilities.
  • Have ability to enable and inspire team effort achieve long term development.
10. Head of Corporate Planning Business Development

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Head Business Development oversees the development of business opportunities for the Institute including:
  • Formulation of marketing and promotion policies and procedures for the Institute’s academic programmes;
  • Initiating and overseeing the implementation of commercialization strategies in line with the Institute’s mandate;
  • Evaluating, developing and advising on Academic programmes in the Institute;
  • Designing marketing and promotion programmes for the academic programmes of the Institute;
  • Sourcing and coordinating consultancy services; and
  • Any other lawful duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
  • A Masters in Business Administration or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Satisfactorily served as a Business Administration Officer in the Institute or in a comparable position with equivalent responsibilities in similar institutions for at least three (3) years.
  • Good entrepreneurial and creativity skills.
  • Sound analytical and strategic skills.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
  • Good computer knowledge.
11. Head of Catering and Accommodation
Ref: HRR/ADM 023

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Formulation, interpretation and application of catering and accommodation policy, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Planning the available catering and accommodation resources including money, personnel, equipment, rooms and operations.
  • Continuous appraisal of performance of the staff in the Catering & Accommodation Department.
  • Ensuring that catering and accommodation stores are well stocked with necessary materials for production and service.
  • Marketing and promoting the catering services.
  • Any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Hospitality Management or in Food and Beverage Production or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Diploma in Catering or Nutrition from a recognized institution.
  • Satisfactorily served as Head Chef at the Institute or in a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like institutions for a minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Demonstrated high degree of dependability and interpersonal relation skills.
  • Ability to relate and work well with others.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Teamwork and team leadership skills.
12. Property Officer
Ref: HRR/ADM 024

Responsible For:

Provision of property management services including:
  • Undertaking daily inspection of properties;
  • Preparing and submitting timely and accurate reports on properties;
  • Ensuring prompt payment of rates;
  • Ensuring continuous supply of power, water and other utilities; and
  • Ensuring regular maintenance of property;
  • Any other lawful duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree in building economics or its equivalent from a recognized university;
  • Satisfactorily served as Maintenance Assistant I in the Institute or a comparable position with similar responsibilities in like institutions for a minimum period of three (3) years; and
  • Wide experience in property management.
13. Administration Officer
Ref: HRR/ADM 025

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provision of administration services including:
  • Implementation of administration policies and procedures.
  • Resolving issues relating to the administration of the Institute.
  • Ensuring accurate records management system is in place.
  • Availing necessary administrative requirements to every office.
  • Handling all official travel arrangements, both for local and overseas travel.
  • Timely procurement of requisite licenses for the organization vehicles and drivers.
  • Any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree in social sciences or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Diploma in Administration or its equivalent.
  • Good organizational and management skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and work well with minimum supervision.
