The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance.

It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.

The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations in Africa.

Regional Reporting Delegate / Officer

The ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking an experienced and highly motivated person to fill the above mentioned position:

The reporting Officer / Delegate is responsible for producing the narrative part of funding proposals and reports to the European Commission (EC), and in particular to ECHO.

The position is based in Nairobi and will cover mainly delegations in Africa where ICRC has contracts with EC/ECHO. The position will require travelling to these countries whenever opportune.

Main responsibilities:

Preparing and writing the narrative part of the funding requests, interim and final reports for ECHO and possibly other EC Departments, ensuring that the level of information provided is coherent across operations and takes into account ICRC’s long-term interests and relationship with the European Commission.

Main tasks
  • Collect relevant information in internal documents/reports from ICRC HQs and field.
  • Summarize ICRC’s analyses, approach, needs assessment, objectives, activities, results and outcome for one or several specific actions in a coherent and readable way, based on a given format;
  • Complete missing information through direct contacts with concerned file holders (mainly protection and assistance coordinators) and submit draft documents to the file holders for completion when necessary;
  • Conduct briefing sessions for new ICRC colleagues concerned by EC contracts, requirements and policies;
  • In coordination with concerned Heads of Delegation and / or file holders/program responsible, participate in meetings with EC representatives when opportune;
  • Other reporting tasks: the management of the Regional delegation, or any other ICRC delegation in the region, and in coordination with the External Resources Division, may require ad hoc reporting support for other than EC files.
Minimum length of assignment: 2 years
