Nuru International’s Fellows Program is a 13-month opportunity for talented and motivated professionals to use their skills to affect real social change by working directly with communities in rural Kenya to end extreme poverty. A stipend, flights, accommodation, travel insurance and a modest living allowance will be provided; as well as a 2-week intensive training in the U.S. prior to leaving.

Overview:

The IGA Fellow reports directly to the Nuru Chief Financial Officer. He/she contributes to Nuru’s mission by managing the Income Generating Activities in Kenya, which include three main activities: agribusiness, a dairy farm, and health commodities sales. Income Generating Activities are critical to creating financially self-sustaining and scaling model. The IGA Fellow will manage Nuru's businesses on the ground and ensure their profitability and scalability.

Specific Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for meeting goals of income generating actives of Nuru Kenya.
  • Empower, train and mentor the Nuru Kenya IGA Manager to facilitate successful 5 year exit.
  • Facilitate third party evaluation of the IGA program as needed.
  • Manage financial resources allocated to the IGA program to include: budget forecasting, sustainable revenue generation, and supervise and mentor the Nuru Kenya accounting team in conjunction with the Nuru International Controller.
  • Maintain effective relationship with government entities.
  • Manage and coordinate all operations conducted by partners within IGA program.
  • Conduct effective turnover to future IGA Fellow.
Required Skills and Attributes:
  • Business degree (MBA desirable).
  • Minimum 4 years of business experience.
  • Prefer experience running a company or managing a P/L with $1m-$2m budget.
  • Prior experience in developing world.
  • Experience and / or interest in working with the poor. Strong work ethic.
  • Strong leadership and team building experience.
  • Ability to do crisis management and rapid, innovative problem solving in uncertain environments.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Nuru International.
