The Commission for Higher Education is a strategic public institution which has overall responsibility for the establishment, accreditation and quality assurance of university academic programmes, and governance in higher education institutions. 

In order to achieve its mandate, the Commission seeks to recruit a Commission Secretary who will spearhead the realisation of the vision and mission of the organisation.

About the Position

The Commission Secretary will report to the Board and will be accountable and responsible for the following:
  • Provision of strategic and transformative leadership towards sustainability of high quality standards in higher education sector nationally.
  • Leading the process of accreditation and quality assurance in higher education.
  • Assuring prudent management of all the resources of the Commission.
  • Building and nurturing a highly motivated and disciplined workforce.
  • Ensuring compliance with the constitutional, public financial management and other statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring the development of effective service delivery systems to address the expanded and dynamic nature of higher education.
  • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders including regional and international organisations.
  • Undertaking any other task as may be assigned from time to time by the Board.
Person Profile

The job requirements include:
  • An earned PhD from a recognised university.
  • Have served in academic, research or equivalent institutions up to the position of Professor, Associate Professor or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance in higher education.
  • Should have successfully served at least for one term as Vice Chancellor or equivalent position in research or senior administration/management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, regional and global higher education landscape.
  • Proven evidence of resource mobilisation.
  • Evidence of published articles in refereed journals or books for higher education.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.
Terms and Conditions of Service
  • Duration of contract: The successful applicant will be appointed on a five (5) year contract and will be eligible for renewal once upon satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
  • Package: The position of Commission Secretary carries a competitive package and terms whose point of entry will depend on qualification and experience of the successful applicant.
