East African Community

The EAC Secretariat signed an MOU with Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) on 26th January 2012. 

The overall objective of the MOU is to facilitate the mobilization of research competences and capacities of Nordic Africa Institute, which can be strategically used to support regional economic, political and social integration and development agenda of the EAC.

The Secretariat intends to use part of the funds to recruit a Research Assistant (RA) for the purpose of ensuring a smooth implementation of the activities stipulated in the “Research and Capacity Development Partnership Programme “RCDPP” and the MoU in general.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of the East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda) for the following position tenable at the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania:

Research Assistant (RA) 

(1 Post) — (REF: EAC/HR/033)

Reports to: Senior Industrial Engineer
Organ/Institution: East African Community Secretariat
Duration of Contract: 18 months.
Station: EAC Secretariat Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania

Main purpose of the job

Take a lead role in the conducting of the two commissioned studies, which will ultimately inform formulation of ‘An integrated productive capacity-driven strategy for fostering meaningful integration in regional and global trading system.”

The Research Assistant shall undertake the research activity under technical mentoring of the Nordic Africa Institute Programme Focal Point (NAI PFP), and is expected to conduct desk research, use research instruments developed by the Nordic Africa Institute Programme Focal Point (NAI PFP) to conduct structured interviews with diverse stakeholders in the EAC Partner States, collect relevant data and information, process such data and information into universally usable data sets, and conduct initial analysis in consultation with and under guidance of the NAI PFP, prepare research reports, use research instruments developed by the NAI PFP to conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with stakeholders in the EAC Partner States; and in this case as well, prepare reports on the basis of the findings from the consultations.

Qualifications and experience

Must be a holder of Bachelor’s Degree with a bias / major in any of the following disciplines: Economics, Industrial Economics, Development Economics, International Trade, Regional Integration, and Industrialization Management with at least 5 years of research or consuftancy experience in the field of industrialization, international trade, regional integration, development studies, with a proven track record of research publications.

Terms and Conditions of Service
  • This position is NAI funded and is a non established position whose contract terms are limited to the period of support.
  • The post offers attractive consolidated remuneration package. The position will be subjected to the EAC quota system.
