M P Shah Hospital is looking to recruit an ambitious and career driven person for a vacancy in the following position:
 
Medical Officer -  Accident & Emergency
 
The Medical Officer will be responsible for triaging, assessing, diagnosing, treating & managing emergency room patients. 

To facilitate diagnosis s/he will be expected to order for appropriate laboratory tests and radiographic examinations and interpret/analyze the reports once the reports are available. 

As part of the clinical team, the Medical Officer will provide emergency treatment and referral for patients who come with life threatening conditions and will also be expected to participate in the development and evaluation of new techniques in patient care.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Maintain current emergency medical knowledge and skills through independent studying and continue in education activities
  • Exhibit professionalism in ED in regards to behavior, attire and reliability and discuss problems and reviews related to the patient’s medical records as part of quality assurance studies
  • Take detailed history of patient, examine patient and review medical records
  • Participate in medical staff and/ or hospital affairs with the support of the in charge and make recommendations on changes if required
  • Facilitate transportation of critically ill patients
  • Maintain knowledge of and be compliant with existing laws
  • Carry out ward procedures such as fixing of branulas, N.G tubes, catheterization, ward reviews and resuscitation and carry out any other procedures required
  • Handle patients in casualty and assess a polytrauma patient, comatose, neurological patient and cardiac emergencies
  • Facilitate resuscitation of critically ill and injured patients
  • Guide nurses and other medical staff in history taking and examination of medico-legal cases
  • Train nurses and other medical staff on ACLS & ATLS
Minimum Requirements:
  • Hold a University Degree in Medicine
  • Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • At least 2 years of post-training experience in A&E in a busy hospital
  • Ability to perform minor surgical procedures
  • Post graduate qualification in General Practice with emergency department experience
  • Have experience in emergency medicine, minor illnesses, minor injuries and Paediatric care
  • Willing to work on call and flexible on work timings
  • Must be well organized and have the ability to plan ahead and deal with issues as they arise
  • Must be conscientious and check own work thoroughly for errors/omissions
  • Must demonstrate the ability to proactively identify potential problems and act to avoid them or to ensure a positive outcome
  • Must be able to cooperate and work closely with other members of staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in Adult Advanced Cardiovascular and Trauma Life Support [ATLS/ACLS] skills and where hospitals admit children - Paediatric Advanced Life Support skills, [PALS/EPLS].
