The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI): The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, and Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam) and East Asia (China).
ILRI seeks to recruit a Room Steward. Reporting to the Housekeeper, the job holder will be required to clean and tidy up the hostel rooms and hostel public areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clean hostel rooms by using cleaning equipments (included making beds) and common areas where assigned.
  • Ensure the standard amenities and linen is provided in the rooms. E.g.  Toilet paper, soap, laundry list, laundry bags, towels, bed sheets etc.
  • Collect guest cloths with completed laundry form and hand them to the laundry for cleaning
  • Collect laundered cloths at the end of the day and place them in the wardrobe.
  • Report any maintenance and repair in the rooms to the housekeeper.
  • Collect items if any forgotten by the guest in the rooms and give to the housing clerk/housekeeper for safe keeping.
  • Ensure the room doors and windows are not left open at the end of the day after airing the rooms.
  • Assisting checking in and checkout guest with their luggage (Porter) when required.
  • Extend cleaning services to the residential houses in cases where hostel guests are allocated to houses.
  • Preparing vacated houses for new tenants.
  • Conduct a monthly inventory for linen and other assets in the hostel rooms.
  • Ensure that Housing assets are cared for.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Certificate in Housekeeping
  • 2 years experience in a reputable establishment
Post location: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only.

Duration: The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Job level and salary: This position is job level 1A and starting salary is KES 29,200 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme.
