The office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Kenya is looking for a Local Security Coordinator

The person will be the primary coordinator and advisor for all operational security matters in the country. 

He will also support the IMF Somalia Office for all operational security concerns in Kenya.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the IMF Resident Representative in Kenya, the Local Security Coordinator will assist in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the management of safety and security for IMF personnel in the country or in the region of assignment. 

His/her main tasks include the following:
  • General liaison with UNDSS and ensuring all IMF personnel are supported under the UN security arrangements in the country, including zone warden system;
  • Liaise with key host government security officials, diplomatic missions, the World Bank, non-governmental organizations and other security partners;
  • Act as logistics coordinator for all IMF missions. Liaise with the Central Bank, and Ministry of Finance Security Officers to arrange protocol and support for IMF missions;
  • Provide guidance to missions and resident staff on emergency security communication system available in the country;
  • Review security arrangements at the hotels and government offices where IMF business is routinely carried out such as the Central Bank and Ministry of Finance;
  • Assist the headquarters-based Regional Security advisor (RSA) in collection, collation, verification and analysis of information on security situation in the country;
  • Liaise with the contracted uniformed guards at the IMF’s offices and staff residences;
  • Assist in maintaining the Emergency Action Plan, including updating staff and Key Security contact lists;
  • Act as a first responder to security incidents affecting IMF staff, offices and assets in the country;
  • Assist in reporting security incidents affecting IMF staff, offices and assets and assist in the preparation of security reports;
  • Provide support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness, and providing security orientation to newly assigned staff members; and
  • Conduct security briefings, as required.
Competencies and Experience
 
Language: Must have proficiency in written and spoken English.
 
Planning and Organizing: Demonstrate ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate and monitor his/her own work plan with minimum supervision. Possess the ability to work under high stress in crisis situations.

Teamwork: Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment like the IMF

Communication: Proven verbal and written communication skills.
 
Education: A university degree in social sciences, security management, or other relevant discipline; or commensurate work experience in military, police or other security force.

Experience: Five years security experience in the UN or military or police or related field of work.
 
Other Skills
  • Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operations strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of host country security services and good local security network strongly preferred;
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) strongly preferred;
  • Experience in diplomatic security, UN Security, protection and intelligence considered an asset;
  • Must be physically fit, with a valid driver’s license, executive protection driving experience preferred.
