The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) was incorporated in 2008 under the Company’s Act Cap 486 as a state corporation wholly owned by the Government.

The Company was established to develop new high voltage electricity transmission infrastructure that will form the backbone of the National Transmission Grid, in line with Kenya Vision 2030.

The Company wishes to competitively fill the following positions:-

1. Power Economist

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Technical Services

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Carry out economic analysis of a) power demand b) least-cost power, c) economic viability, and d) risk analysis of electricity transmission system;
  • Carrying out research and development aimed at improving electricity transmission network.
  • In liaison with KETRACO planning and design Engineers undertake an appraisal and optimisation of the transmission system/network.
  • Liaise with other Energy sector players involved in operations of transmission network.
  • Coordinate planning with other players in the East African Power Pool and regional markets.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Must have at least a Master’s degree in Electrical engineering;
  • Must have been exposed to Project Management for at least five years; and
  • Those with experience in load flow analysis and power system planning, particularly with hands on experience in application of the Power System Simulator for Engineers (PSSE) software will have an added advantage.
  • Must be competent, articulate, able to work without supervision, meet strict deadlines and cope with intense work pressure.
  • Must have good communications, analytical and presentation skills
2. Legal Officer

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Legal officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting, perusing and vetting of all contracts and agreements that the Company enters into with third parties.
  • Participating in the formulation and review of legal procedures and policies for the Company.
  • Providing legal advice, recommendations and briefings to all internal functions
  • Reviewing and advising on due diligence reports, consultancy reports and other reports from legal consultants
  • Together with other players within KETRACO, managing the land and wayleave acquisition portfolio for the Company.
  • Keeping abreast of changes in the legal and regulatory environment impacting on the Company and advising on necessary response.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • L.L.B Degree
  • Diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law
  • Holder of a current practicing certificate
  • An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • At least five (5) years relevant post-qualification experience at a senior level in a busy working environment
  • Must be competent, articulate, able to work without supervision, meeting strict deadlines and cope with intense work pressure.
  • Experience in drafting, vetting and negotiating complex international contracts will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle conveyance work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise judgment and make decisions to promote smooth workflow
  • Certified Public Secretary (CPS) qualification is an added advantage
