Vacancy: Senior Project Officer – Marketing & Microfinance

Background / Summary: Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an international non-governmental organization supporting relief and development work in over 99 countries around the world. 

CRS programs assist persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality and
works through local church and non-church partners to implement its programs. 

CRS has been helping poor, vulnerable families improve their lives through microfinance products and services since 1988. 

CRS’ Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) is a savings-led microfinance methodology that has roots in traditional community-based savings groups but improves upon those approaches by helping communities create accessible, transparent, flexible, and self-managed Accumulating Savings and Credit Associations (ASCAs). 

CRS’ SILC methodology is a holistic programming approach that provides a safe place for poor households to save and increase their income.
 

CRS is piloting leveraging the SILC model to market socially responsible products in rural areas. 

The Private Service Provider (PSP) delivery channel presents a unique opportunity for CRS to learn how link rural PSPs to producers and/or distributors of appropriate products, based on local market demand.
 
Position Title: Senior Project Officer – Marketing & Microfinance

Location: Nairobi with 50% field travel
 
Job Purpose: The Senior Project officer (SPO) marketing and Microfinance is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of a project focused on piloting the concept of leveraging the (PSP) model to market socially responsible products in the implementation areas. 

The anticipated project will work in Eldoret with a target group of PSPs to develop and test the model of using PSPs to market socially responsible and appropriate products. 

The SPO will: work with PSPs to identify and create links with potential suppliers; take the lead in identifying promising practices for the business model of PSPs marketing socially responsible products; and ensure that a guide is produced to share highlights, promising practices and lessons learnt to other countries. 

S/he will ensure the project’s compliance with CRS and donor policy, build the capacity of PSPs and ensure accurate and timely reporting. 

S/he will collaborate closely with the SPO implementing a FSDK-funded project in the region.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirement
  • A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or business-related subjects from a reputable university.
  • At least 3 working years’ experience in marketing or microfinance.
  • Experience marketing products and contributing to supply chain and business models a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to development through local empowerment
  • Excellent written and oral communication and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work both independently, and as member of diverse task teams.
  • Practical experience in community microfinance training
  • Budget management experience, strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal, multi-cultural and training/mentoring skills
  • Ability to cultivate constructive relationships and serve with integrity
  • Good stewardship of resources and ability to promote learning
